KYOTO Design Lab デザインファクトリーは、KYOTO Design Lab のミッションを実現するための、国内最大規模の共創プラットフォームです。本学の全学系・学年の学生、教職員、学内プロジェクトにおいて参加している外部の学生、企業が自由に利用することができます。
デザインファクトリーは、最新鋭のデジタルファブリケーションが揃うデジタルファクトリーを中心に、ウッドファクトリー、メタルファクトリー、テキスタイルファクトリー、バイオマテリアルファクトリー、フォトダークルーム、フォトスタジオの7つの施設からなります。
この多様な施設を横断して利用することにより、ほぼあらゆるものを作れる環境を実現します。
各施設の紹介と主な機材
デジタルファクトリー（KYOTO Design Lab 1階）
最新設備によるデザインとファブリケーションが可能なデジタルファクトリーでは、複数の造形方式による大小さまざまな３Dプリンターを揃え、中にはフード３Dプリンターも稼働しています。３D CAD制作が行えるPC設備（Mac／Win）、カッティングプロッター、真空成形機、レーザー加工機、ロボットアームを含むNC加工機のほか、デジタル刺繍ミシンやホールガーメントマシンも完備。さらには３Dスキャナなど最新鋭の計測機器、大型出力プリンターも備えています。

ウッドファクトリーは、木工旋盤、パネルソーなどの大型工作機械を擁し、多様な木材加工が可能な大規模施設です。
主な機材
昇降盤、軸傾斜横切盤、パネルソー、手押鉋盤、自動一面鉋盤、糸鋸盤、帯鋸盤 / 卓上帯鋸盤、ボール盤、角のみ盤、スピンドルモルダー、ユニバーサルサンダー、スピンドルサンダー、木工旋盤、全自動プレス機、その他手持ち工具
メタルファクトリーには、金属の切断・研磨・接合等、一通りの金属加工と吸排気が整備された塗装ブースがあります。

テキスタイルファクトリーでは、主に布素材へのプリントを軸とした機材が揃い、捺染式・昇華型式の大型プリンターのほか、シルクスクリーン製版を作成できる暗室、プリント・プレス機が各種あります。

バイオマテリアルファクトリーは、キノコの菌糸類を培養して制作されたレザーなど、新素材の研究・開発・実験を行う施設です。顕微鏡、無菌環境で作業を行うクリーンベンチ、恒温恒湿器、大型インキュベーターなど素材の培養を促進させる環境が整っています。

プロジェクトの記録撮影や映像作品など動画の撮影も可能な大型フォトスタジオです。2階にはフィルムの現像ができる現像室も備えています。

安全講習
安全に利用していただくため、利用希望者は事前にMoodle上で安全講習を受講し、テストに合格する必要があります。合格者には修了証が発行され、デザインファクトリーの利用にはこの修了証の所持が必須となります。

Completed in 2018 on the campus of Kyoto Institute of Technology, KYOTO Design Lab is the world’s largest design space, encompassing fabrication facilities and a photo studio, which were previously separated on campus, in a single facility.
Centered around the Digital Factory, which houses state-of-the-art digital fabrication equipment, there are five specialized facilities: the Wood Factory, Metal Factory, Textile Factory, and Biomaterials Factory. Students and D-lab project participants are free to use the facilities and realize their own ideas through a wealth of facility equipment and the latest digital fabrication techniques.

Digital Factory（KYOTO Design Lab 1F）
The Digital Factory, which offers design and fabrication using the latest equipment, has a variety of large and small 3D printers with multiple molding methods, including a food 3D printer in operation.
It is equipped with PC facilities (Mac/Win) for 3D CAD production, cutting plotters, vacuum forming machines, laser processing machines, NC processing machines including robot arms, digital embroidery machines, and WHOLEGARMENT machines.
In addition, state-of-the-art measurement equipment such as 3D scanners and large output printers are also available.

The Wood Factory is a large-scale facility equipped with large machine tools such as wood lathes and panel saws, allowing for a wide variety of wood processing.

The Metal Factory has a full range of metal processing, including metal cutting, grinding, and joining, as well as a painting booth with well-equipped intake and exhaust systems.

The Textile Factory is equipped with equipment mainly for printing on fabrics, including large textile and sublimation printers, a darkroom for making silkscreen plates, and a variety of printing and pressing machines.

The Biomaterials Factory is a facility for research, development, and experimentation of new materials, such as leather produced from cultured mushroom mycelium. The facility is equipped with microscopes, clean benches for working in an aseptic environment, constant temperature and humidity equipment, and a large incubator to facilitate the cultivation of materials.

Safety Training
To ensure safe use of the facility, all prospective users are required to complete a safety training course and pass a test via Moodle. A certificate of completion will be issued to those who pass, and possession of this certificate is mandatory to use the Design Factory.
